Symbolizing eternal life, the Ankh can be found in ancient tombs and paintings. There are many theories as to the Ankh’s representation. Some scholars consider it to be the cross of Egypt, while others state that it is shaped like the strap of a sandal and the circle at the top is the loop that encircles the sandal. Interestingly enough, there are many hieroglyphics that depict the Ankh as a symbol of conception as well. Mortals touched by the Ankh are said to be given eternal life.
